The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant chassis flex, or deformation and torsional twisting of the body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
