The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, the transfer of weight to one side of the vehicle can result in up to three times more load than on the other side. This causes the chassis to twist and the body to deform, resulting in the tyres losing grip. Chassis twisting when driving through corners can also cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
