The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When driving through a corner, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in significant deformation and flexing of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
