The car’s chassis is among the parts most heavily affected by driving style. This is particularly evident when the vehicle’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, hard braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes significant deformation and flexing of the chassis or bodywork, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
