The car’s chassis is the part most affected by the driver’s driving style. This is especially evident when the body mass is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This results in significant bending and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
