The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is mainly caused by the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes significant chassis flexing, as well as body deformation and torsion, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
