The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
In some cases, mass transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This leads to significant twisting and bending of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Twisting and deformation of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
