The chassis is the part of the vehicle subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can result in significant bending, deformation and twisting of the chassis, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
