The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in pronounced twisting and bending of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
